Fun Facts

Here are some questions we’ve been asked by Milkshake fans.  If you have a question for Milkshake, feel free to email us at mail@milkshakemusic.com, and we’ll add your question--and our answer-- to the list.

"What's your favorite food?"
Cord likes crabs.
Tom likes anything exotic.  Actually, Tom likes anything.
Mikel likes broccoli and pasta.
Shepp likes sushi and bowling alley burgers & fries.
Lisa likes sushi, pasta, popcorn and direct –from-an-organic farm food.
Brian likes stinky cheese and barbequed anything.

"Hey, Milkshake band--why do you play the instruments you play and when did you begin playing it?"
Cord says: “I was a guitar player first. When a band I was in lost our bass player, I volunteered to switch over.  Just like Paul McCartney.”
Tom says: I started playing in the 3rd grade and I picked drums because I saw a drummer playing and thought it looked very fun and super cool...it is.
Brian says: I started at 5 years old on toy piano, figuring out songs on the radio.  I started clarinet at age 12, accordion in 1993.  Piano makes me happy because I can sing along and it sounds like a whole band (minus the drums); clarinet because I love New Orleans jazz; accordion because I can put it on my back and take it with me.
Mikel says: I started playing guitar at 14 because I lived in a closely knit Baltimore row house neighborhood where everyone played an instrument. On Saturdays all the kids would set up in the backyard to practice, and you could go from block to block seeing new bands and picking up new tips. I learned songs by the Beatles and Rolling Stones but I also tried to write my own songs right away. Those songs weren't very good but they were mine, my expression of how I felt in music and words.
Lisa says: “I always wanted to sing—even my Barbies were singers—and I became serious about it at age 16.  I also played cello in high school, and taught myself guitar and piano (although I don't play either very well!).

"What's your favorite thing to do on a Saturday afternoon?"
Cord says: “In the summer, walk around the park or ride my bike. Winter - drink hot chocolate and watch movies.”
Tom says: "Either taking my dogs out to play in the big field near my house or going to the mall in my pajamas. It's a toss-up.”
Mikel likes snow-tubing in the winter, beach fun in the summer.
Shepp likes playing with Milkshake, bowling, more sleep, bowling and a movie.
Lisa likes to go hiking in the woods, or for a long drive, blasting tunes and singing very loudly.  People stare at her in the summer, when she has the windows down, but she says that’s okay.  Lisa also loves an exceptional dinner in a beautiful restaurant, and traveling with the Milkshake band just about anywhere.
Brian likes to cook, garden or travel anywhere fun (NYC, London, Montreal, Pluto), tend to his Venus flytrap, perfect his faux-French accent.

"What's your favorite milkshake, Milkshake?"
Cord likes vanilla.
Lisa likes chocolate chip mint.
Mikel likes banana.
Shepp likes chocolate
Brian likes Oreo Cookie
Tom likes Rum Raisin, except for the raisins

“How did you come up with the name Milkshake?”
Lisa’s husband loves to play with words and tried to make an anagram for the names Lisa and Mikel.  An anagram is two words made into one.  This sort-of almost anagram, Milkshake, borrows an h, and trades an i for a k.  We loved it immediately, since it seemed to reflect the fun aspect of the band, and the easy blending of musical styles into the basic rock recipe.

“Are Lisa and Mikel married?”
Yes – but not to each other.  Still, they’ve been playing music together for almost twenty years, which is a lot longer than some people stay married.
